The Athens Area Community Foundation
Growing from a coalition created in 2008 to address poverty-related issues in Athens-Clarke County, the Athens Area Community Foundation serves as a trusted guide for local philanthropy, trusted partner for local organizations, and a trusted community leader for its 6-county region of service and beyond. Deeply engrained in the philanthropic landscape of the region, the Athens Area Community Foundation is a public grantmaking institution that shapes effective responses to emerging community needs through its connection to donors, nonprofits, and community institutions across the region. In this capacity, AACF serves as the coalition’s fiscal agent and a key convening partner of Resilient Northeast Georgia.
Georgia Family Connection Region 5
Spanning a twelve-county region in northeast Georgia, Georgia Family Connection Partnership’s Region 5 is a network of partner agencies dedicated to the health and well-being of families and communities. Comprised of Family Connection agencies from Barrow, Clarke, Elbert, Greene, Jackson, Jasper, Madison, Morgan, Newton, Oconee, Oglethorpe, and Walton Counties. Each partner in the region 5 collaborative works within their county and within the region to identify needs, resources, and services that can help to reduce barriers and gaps in service. As key community leaders for Resilient Northeast Georgia, the Family Connection coordinators provide unique insight into the existing and emerging initiatives in their counties, linking the work of partner agencies to the resources and aims of the coalition to reduce the duplication of efforts through regional collaboration.
The Athens Wellbeing Project
Emerging from a collaborative effort between community leaders and institutional partners in Athens-Clarke County, the Athens Wellbeing Project works to empower the community with meaningful data that can be used to guide policies, programs, and services in the region. AWP collects and analyzes representative household-level data from Athens-Clarke County residents and from secondary data sources to provide a comprehensive snapshot of conditions, opportunities, and assets in the community. Encompassing five key domains of life in the community (civic vitality, community safety, health, housing, and lifelong learning), AWP’s data informs the direction of Resilient Northeast Georgia’s work, highlighting key areas of need that can be addressed through the coalition’s grant aims. Additionally, the Athens Wellbeing Project acts as the evaluating body in the coalition, using data and community indicators to track and analyze the reach and effectiveness of programs, policies, and initiatives.
